Gourmands and wine lovers, you are going to enjoy it! Savor the best of contemporary South African-inspired cuisine and breathtaking scenery at Kapokbos Restaurant, recently launched in the family business Weltevrede wine estate.
Located just outside the town of Bonnievale in the Robertson Wine Valley of the Western Cape, Kapokbos Restaurant is named after a native herb found in the veld surrounding the estate and is run by the team mari and wife, Chiefs Juan Fourie and Samantha (Sam) Morris-Fourié.
The seasonally appropriate menu includes the delicious and traditional South African Skaap Stertjie with curried pickled onions and Frikkadel with tomato smoor and brandy raisins and the Amarula ice cream sandwiches “oh I will have seconds” with honeycomb – wine tasting snacks are also available.
Already, the restaurant has made a name for itself as a must-visit dining experience…and it’s won awards too! Winner in the Architecture and Landscape and Innovative Wine Experiences categories at the prestigious Great Wine Capitals Best Of Wine Tourism Awards (BOWTA) 2023 for Cape Town and Cape Winelands, held at Weltevrede Wine Estate.
While at the estate, be sure to visit their new tasting location and join one of the underground tours, where you enter a world steeped in Chardonnay history, old books, works of art, memorabilia and historical exhibits that show its place. in history. And it’s also quite a special story, as it’s arguably one of the oldest South African wine brands still owned and run by the same family – the Jonker family. The Jonker family has been farming here for a hundred years and is now in the hands of Philip Jonker, a fourth-generation family winemaker and Chardonnay specialist.
The Kapokbos restaurant is open Tuesday to Sunday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. (last service at 3 p.m.) and Friday and Saturday for dinner from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. (last service at 8 p.m.). Reservation is essential.
