The Best Places to Stay in Singapore – Hotels and More

For a small island, Singapore has an impressive number of hotels. It is also one of the most expensive cities in the world, where accommodation can easily cost thousands of dollars per night.

As a local, I have given friends and visitors countless hotel recommendations over the years, ranging from affordable budget to total luxury. Before deciding where to stay in Singapore, I recommend that you set a budget and choose a neighborhood where you want to settle.

If you want malls, boutiques and don’t mind high rises and crowds, the Orchard area is for you; while if you prefer independent boutique shops and a more laid-back vibe, you’re better off staying in the Bugis area. If you’re someone who loves sun, sand, and sea and wants to be far—but not too far—from the mainland, choose Sentosa for its endless attractions and cool beach clubs. Those looking for a “self-contained” neighborhood where there’s a little bit of everything, from trendy cafes serving all types of cuisine to quaint shops selling locally made handicrafts, choose the Katong/Joo Chiat area.

It’s been hard to narrow down this list, but here are my 10 favorite places to stay for every type of budget.
