The ‘Monduro 2.0’ mountain bike race will begin on November 9; Promote Tawang as a cycling paradise

World’s Highest Enduro Mountain Bike Race – ‘MONDURO 2.0’ will be held from 9th to 13th November 2022; an event held to promote Tawang as a cycling paradise and the ultimate destination for adventure tourism.

‘Mon’ stands for Land of Monpas, and ‘Duro’ represents the Enduro format of mountain biking: related to a long-distance race for bicycles or motor vehicles, usually over rough terrain.

Organized by Tawang Cycling Association (TCA) in conjunction with Arunachal Pradesh Department of Tourism, Spokehub Racing, WhackyTalky, GT Adventures; this event aims to attract runners from all over the world, thus bringing to life the forgotten history of the ancient routes, once taken by the 6th Dalai Lama.

According Monduro official website, Tawang has a nascent mountain bike culture. The region has great potential to become a paradise for cyclists. There are many trails through the city, which were once used for travel by locals. For cycling enthusiasts, it is the ideal destination, due to its geography, history and climate. Additionally, the COVID-19 pandemic has changed people’s lifestyles, making the promotion of cycling and, by extension, health more important than ever.

However, the 2nd pre-booking for Monduro 2.0 is now online. According to the organisers, pre-booking the ticket guarantees time slots for Monduro 2.0; thus benefiting from a reduction of 10% on the registration fees. Race details for the event will be announced soon.

“The trails include elements that typically make up an Enduro, including steeps at times with rock gardens, streams, walks through rhododendron-filled jungle and vast green meadows. It is especially said that Arunachal Pradesh has the best trails in the whole country,” – as previously stated by Junior Specialist and Orthopedic Surgeon of Tawang District Hospital and Head of TCA – Dr Dukhum Magu .
